     July 23, 1764 — The Pursuit of Unity

On this day in 1764, the global church lost Gilbert Tennent, a fiery preacher and a primary architect of the First Great Awakening in America. Early in his ministry, his uncompromising and aggressive sermons caused deep rifts and denominational splits among Presbyterians. Yet, in his later years, Tennent experienced a profound spiritual shift, dedicating his life to healing the very divisions he had helped create. He published The Pacificator, passionately pleading for church unity and reconciliation.

🎀 Reflection: Tennent’s journey is a powerful reminder for us today. True spiritual awakening does not fracture the Body of Christ; it mends it. As we gather at our GAIA altars, we pray for the courage to stand firm in truth, but also the humility to fight for unity.

🧑‍🏫 Devotional Teaching: Deliverance is the act of getting the enemy out, but “Victory” is the act of moving yourself in. After the Israelites were delivered from Egypt, they still had to occupy the Promised Land. The giants didn’t just leave because the Red Sea parted; the people had to set their feet on the ground and claim it. Walking in victory requires a territorial mindset. You must identify the areas of your life—your finances, your health, your family peace—where the enemy has been camping out, and you must physically and spiritually set your foot there.
